A Wonderful Day!

Brazil 2014

Today is a good day all over Brazil! It is the first day of the World Cup! We are having riots and protests, yet at the same time, it is one of the few days that many Brazilians show their patriotic colors!

What does this mean to me as a Brazilian?

  1. It means I need to show my patriotism!
  2. It means party time!
  3. It means this afternoon is a holiday!
  4. It means you are going to sit on the edge of your seat waiting for a goal!
  5. It means frustration when the ball does not go in the goal!
  6. It means I am a part of the only country to win at least 5 World Cups!
  7. It means I am cheering for a 6th World Cup!
  8. It means food, fun, and fellowship!
  9. It means talking about Brazil’s political, educational, financial, and health care status!
  10. It means fireworks, loud noises, honking, yelling, and just about anything that makes noise!

World Cup 2014

What does it mean to me as a father?

  1. I had to buy all of my boys a Brazil shirt!
  2. Our whole family is cheering for Brazil!
  3. It is a time to make memories for my children!
  4. I must know the answer to questions about who won the last ten World Cups, what teams have a chance to win this year, and is one team better than the other (most of which I do not know how to answer)!
  5. I must talk to my children about the real needs in Brazil!

World Cup 2014

What does this mean to me as a missionary?

  1. Many months have been spent in preparation for the next 30 days!
  2. Hours of praying that God would use the materials and work in the lives of individuals!
  3. I have designed a website specifically for this occassion! (www.truevictory.net)
  4. We have encouraged many people to get involved in reaching the lost and distributing the message of salvation to people from dozens of countries that will be at our doorstep!
  5. Churches have been encouraged to participate!
  6. Millions of Gospel tracts and Bible portions have been prepared for distribution during the next 30 days!
  7. Millions of people in Brazil will receive the Gospel through literature and the internet over the next 30 days!
  8. Some people will find true victory in their lives through Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross!

Please help us pray!!!

Keeping in Touch

I have recently learned that it is a good idea to keep in touch with other missionaries. God has used many of them in our lives recently. There are three specific cases that come to mind…

SPAIN

Spanish Flag

I recently wrote to a missionary in Spain, John Beck, to let them know we were praying for them. Shortly afterward we were put in contact with a Brazilian man who was won to Christ, baptized and discipled in Spain. He is now in Brazil praying about starting a church in his city. He is only about eight hours away from us and a little more than four hours away from some other missionaries who may be able to help him. For this part of the country, that is really not that far away.

Japan

2. Years ago I had met a missionary family to Japan, Ralph and Janet Burchell. Recently I decided to write them and let them know we were praying for them. Shortly afterward, we were able to make a connection and get a Japanese translation of the Gospel on our website.

India

Indian Flag

3. A pastor friend of mine gave me a prayer card for a Brazilian missionary to India, online casino Jefferson Quevedo Soares. I was very interested in this man because few Brazilian missionaries ever make it out of the country. Most are missionaries within Brazil”s borders. After recently making contact with him, he told me he has relatives that live here in the state of Rondônia. His brother contacted me today and told us that he knows someone living near our city looking for a good Baptist church. Praise the Lord! We are making contacts by means of India!

Please pray for missionaries

and

let them know you are praying for them!

“Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ”s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me.” Romans 15:30

Back in Brazil!!!

I just wanted to let everyone know that we are back in Brazil. We arrived safely last Friday. The trip was very smooth other than the two lugnut studs on the car that broke off on the way to the airport. The other three were loose and about to come off when the car started shaking. The Lord lead us to a mechanic who had the car fixed in less than 45 minutes and we were on our way to the airport with no further incidents.

Our flights went very well. On the long flight from Detroit to São Paulo, we had a row of seats for each of us. There were only 30 people on the entire flight.

Since our arrival we have found out that our car needs a little work done to it, but the mechanic that I use has left for the holidays. We are waiting a few days to see if he returns, but we might have to take the car elsewhere if he delays.

We knew our arrival would not mean settling down. Next week we will be gone for 3-4 days. I will be preaching and helping in a conference in Limeira. The week after that I will be gone for 3 days travelling to Campo Belo to meet with a missionary friend and several pastors from the area to discuss Christian literature and our involvement with their ministry.

Please pray for us as we are starting to make preperations for our move northwest. Very soon we will be making plans and looking for transportation. Pray for the Lord’s timing in everything we do over the next 6 months. There are dozens of events that must fall into place at the right time. We are thankful for those who have prayed for us and continue to pray for us.
